Fell Out Of Love

I fell out of love
it was a long way down
I had a parachute
I went flyin’ around

I came to a country
where everyone cried
the faucets were broken
and the water was wide
some there were older
and some there were young
rivers of memory
coming undone

“say, tell us your story
what was her name”
but I couldn’t remember
and it started to rain
so they took me out under
the darkening sky
said “here’s your umbrella
good luck and goodbye”

I fell out of love
it was a long way down
I had a parachute
I went flyin’ around

I came to a country
where nobody cared
their heads were all empty
they sat and they stared
I wanted some water
and they asked me what for
but I couldn’t explain it
anymore

it was all so perfect
their houses and cars
beautiful emptiness
studded with stars
nobody bothered
’cause nobody cared
so when no one was watching
I got out of there

I fell out of love
it was a long way down
I had a parachute
I went flyin’ around

I came to a place where
experience lived
and they never forgot
till they learned to forgive
and I asked for advice
from a passerby
who said “ask me for true
and i’ll tell you no lie”

“you been to the country where
everyone cries
and you’ve been to where
everyone lives in disguise
now you’ve come here
to knock on our door
that’s a good start
now go do it some more”

I fell out of love
it was a long way down
I had a parachute
I went flyin’ around

and I traveled through all
the shades of the sun
till I couldn’t remember
where I started from
and finally I came to
a place that would be
as perfect a place
for a someone like me

and all the while
I was finding my way
you were doing the same
in a different way
how could we know
what our lives would intend
until we both fell
back into love again

I fell out of love
it was a long way down
I had a parachute
I went flyin’ around

I fell out of love
it was a long way down
we both had parachutes
we went flyin’ around
